The Hangu Junior High School site is adjacent to Yongle Lake, with Zhongliang Mountain to the east, and has excellent natural landscape. When we saw the long Zhongliang Mountains on the east side coming into view, we were deeply attracted. At the same time, we felt that this natural and unique landscape might disappear from people's sight during the construction of the future science city. People who have lived in the future science city for a long time may forget the original appearance of Chongqing Mountain City, and it will become the same as other science cities. Therefore, the continuation of urban characteristics is an important focus of the design.
The design started from here. In order to enhance the connection between the campus and the surrounding urban space, we chose to arrange the track and field on the land on the east side, leaving enough experience distance for the Zhongliang Mountains, and integrating the urban landscape into the campus. In the future, the surrounding area will be filled with dense high-rise buildings, and the spaciousness of the playground will appear more luxurious. This "empty" state means more possibilities and freedom. The playground is also a very important part of the campus space and the activities of teachers and students. We regard the placement of the track and field as an urban experiment: a playground on the land, a free playground.
The school building continues the undulating mountainous landscape of Chongqing, and organizes the space in a stepped manner to form a floating sky garden. The stepped terraces of different elevations are staggered with each other, guiding the sight towards Zhongliang Mountain and the lake, creating a unique campus environment that is closely integrated with the site. The overlapping and staggered roofs and the step-step walkways with different views present typical characteristics. On the one hand, the school space connects the city and the natural scenery of Zhongliang Mountain horizontally in terms of sight; on the other hand, it also provides an open and interesting open activity venue for teachers and students.
